Audio Visual

The Peter Coles Competition
AV Logo. For IAC Audio Visual productions

What is AV?

Audio Visual is a unique art form, combining high quality still images, sometimes animated with zooms and pans and occasional video clips, blended together with an accompanying sound track to produce an AV programme, which for competitions usually has a 12 minute limit.

Audio Visual presentations can range from interpreting music, poetry or song, to stories and documentaries on subjects as varied as nature, travel and tourism, topical issues or historical events. They can be humorous, educational, campaigning, inspiring or eccentric, and are limited only by the imagination and skill of the producer. AV is much more than “pictures to music”!  AV at its best has the power to touch people’s hearts, communicate feelings and emotions, and to change people’s lives.

The Geoffrey Round Trophy

Peter Coles was a highly respected and prolific AV worker who won a great many awards both nationally and internationally, but also mentored and encouraged very many others in their AV journey. For many years he was the organiser of IAC’s Geoffrey Round AV competition and presented the Award Winners’ show at BIAFF.  In so doing he brought the AV world and film and video makers together as we have so much in common.

After Peter’s death in 2011 it was decided to rename the competition in his honour.

A beautiful new artisan Peter Coles trophy was commissioned this year and will be awarded each year to the winner, with the Geoffrey Round Cup being awarded to the Runner Up.
